As a Software Development Engineer in NetEase
This post is about casual internship life, not professional skills.
I started my internship as a front end development engineer in the Mail Business Department of NetEase in April 2015, and changed my role as a server-side development engineer in the Pangu Creator Studio from August 2015 to June 2016.
People often say that working as a game developer is hard and have to work overtime. But working in the Internet industry besides the game industry can also be under strong pressure. When I was in the Mail Business Department, I worked for 6 days a week, and in the most time, from 9:30 am to 9:00 pm, because at that time, we were concentrating on the propaganda work of Mail Master.
Later, I was assigned to develop some embedded pages for NetEase Youqian. In this work, I tried AngularJS as an emerging technology at that time, under the guidance of my supervisor. So I learned something new in this process.
At that time, I was curious about game development and decided to finish my graduation project with game development related work, so I changed my internship and became a server-side development engineer.
It was exciting to develop the MMORPG Tianyu for the first time, and I spent nearly three weeks to be familiar with the game development logic. The functions I have developed will be published in the next update, which sounds good. But later, I found that I was writing some similar easy code with different scenarios, and it might not be interesting anymore.
As graduation drawn near, I started my research work about AOI algorithms in MMORPG. The research code is on my Github.
NetEase provided me with my first internship in a big company, and I am grateful. It has the perfect infrastructure, such as the free buses between the company and some sites in the city, three meals for free, a coffee house that can take a lunch break, the fast network for working that can access Google, a gym with coaches and so on. And I will recommend NetEase to my friends if they found the right positions (to do what you like, and get the salary you deserve).
